2. Common Nouns Does not name a specific person, place, thing, or idea.
They are very general.
Examples:
author
detective
assistant
villain
country
city
street

3. Identify the common noun
Stanton Middle School has lots of students in the building.
Homework can sometimes be hard.
I wish I was in bed right now sleeping.

4. Singular Nouns
A singular noun names one person, place, thing, or idea.
Example: My sister, Angie, is older than me. (sister is a singular noun)

5. Plural Noun Names more than one person, place, thing, or idea.
Example: I have two older sisters. (sisters is plural)

6. Forming Plurals To form the plural of most singular nouns, add –s.
Examples:
painters museums shelters
events attitudes students

7. Forming Plurals
When a singular noun ends in s, sh, ch, x, or z, add (es).
Examples:
dresses brushes coaches
boxes waltzes foxes

8. Forming Plurals
When a singular noun ends in o, add (-s) to make it plural.
Examples:
concertos cameos pianos solos
patios stereos

For some nouns ending in an o preceded by a consonant add –es.
Examples:
