Mission Statement to effectively disseminate PEER research findings to PEER’s constituent groups and of the PEER Outreach & Education Program EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS FOR STUDENTS to further promote the field of earthquake engineering (and related research) to future engineers VARIOUS DISSEMINATION METHODS

PEER’s Core Institutions:

What is PEER trying to disseminate? Research Goals & Summary Research Results Preliminary Progress Updates Final Results Research Conclusions Photos & Video Announcements of awards received Announcements of newly funded projects Announcement of events

PEER Report Series compiles PEER’s research results Free to download online as color pdf’s.  Academic Researchers  Practicing Engineers  Graduate Students

Email Announcements Regular announcements with the latest news from PEER Free to subscribe.  Academic Researchers  Practicing Engineers  Graduate Students  Funding Agencies

PEER Website  Academic Researchers  Practicing Engineers  Graduate Students

Events, Media & Other Orgs Targeted newsletter articles and announcements to other earthquake & engineering orgs Press Releases of research results and testing Lecture series, conferences, seminars &webinars  News Media  Practicing Engineers  Funding Agencies  Students

WHY should you bother? Greater visibility amongst research peers Publication Evidence to funding agencies Influencing professional practice and exposing them to new concepts, ideas and approaches Use of your research results by professional engineers STRENGTH OF THE PEER’s OUTREACH NETWORK

Mission Statement to effectively disseminate PEER research findings to PEER’s constituent groups and of the PEER Outreach & Education Program EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS FOR STUDENTS to further promote the field of earthquake engineering (and related research) to future engineers

K-12 Program (NEES@berkeley) >800 Students ranging from 1 st Grade to High School in 2009 - 2010 Lab Tour at Richmond Field Station Facilities Shaking Table Testing of K’NEX models constructed by students

PEER Summer Internship For undergraduate students

“This by far has been the most rewarding work experience I have had so far. I had never participated in research-based studies so everything was new to me…This summer really opened my eyes to the research side of academia and allowed me to be involved in a way I had never been and furthered my interest in earthquake engineering.” - Emmett Seymour, PEER 2010 Intern

Graduate Students Funded on PEER Research Programs Sponsored attendance to workshops/confs International opportunities Tokyo Tech University&Tongji University Poster sessions & Young Researcher Symposiums PEER Annual Meetings CUEE Annual Meetings

HOW can you participate? 4 easy ways… 1.Nominate your graduate student to participate in PEER programs 2.Advertise events to your graduate students 3.Encourage undergraduates at your university to apply to the PEER Summer Internship Program 4.Volunteer to mentor undergrad interns  Develop interesting, useful and achievable projects

WHAT can PEER EOT do for you? Collaborate on the EOT component of future proposal WORK WITH PEER TO BRAINSTORM IDEAS LEVERAGE OUR CURRENT EDUCATION PROGRAMS AMPLIFY THE IMPACT & EFFECTIVENESS BY UTILIZING PEER’s RESOURCES Get a summer intern from a supplement on your NSF project and have them participate PEER Internship Program
