Metalex First Article Undulator Shipment from ANL to SLAC 6/9-12/06 Details: The Undulator Segment was Bolted to the Bottom of the Shipping Crate Using 2 Rubber Engine Shock Mounts. Additionally, Inner Tubes were Placed Around the Undulator Segment Along the Length. Two ShockLog Monitors were Used to Monitor the Tri-Axial Shock, Temperature, Relative Humidity and Barometric Pressure During Transport. One Monitor was Bolted to the Inside of the Crate Wall (Monitor 1), and the Other Monitor was Bolted Directly to the Top of the Undulator (Monitor 2). The Unit was Prepared for Shipment at ANL on 6/9/06 Starting at around 12:00 PM and Left ANL at around 5:00 PM. The Unit Traveled by Truck to SLAC and Arrived on 6/12/06 and was Unloaded at Approximately 10:00 AM SLAC Time. Both ShockLog Monitors were set as Follows: Acceleration Wake Up1.5 g’sMonitor 1: Y-vertical, Z-horizontal wrt truck Acceleration Warning3.0 g’sMonitor 2: Z-vertical, Y-horizontal wrt truck Accleleration Alarm4.0 g’s

Metalex First Article Undulator Shipment from ANL to SLAC 6/9-12/06 Conclusions: The Crating and Shipping Method using the Rubber Engine Mounts in Conjunction with the Rubber Tires along the Undulator Length seems to Work Quite Well and is Certainly Acceptable The Average Background Shock Seen by the Undulator Segment During Loading, Unloading and Transport is Generally Less Than 1 g. For Future Shipments, The ShockLog Monitor Mounted Directly to the Undulator will Be Set With a Warning Level of 1.5 g’s and an Alarm Level of 2.0 g’s.
