Rachelle Ryan Instructional Technology March 16, 2009 Human Body 3 rd Grade: Science Student objective: The student will be able to conduct investigations and use appropriate technology to build an understanding of the form and function of the skeletal and muscle systems of the human body. Objectives 4.01 Identify the skeleton as a system of the human body. 4.02 Describe several functions of bones: support, protection, and locomotion 4.03 Describe the functions of different types of joints: hinge, ball and socket, and gliding 4.04 Describe how different kinds of joints allow movement and compare this to the movement of mechanical devices. 4.05 Observe and describe how muscles cause the body to move.

Row 1, Col 1 This particular bone protects the brain. What is skull?

1,2 The tissues that allow you to move. What are muscles?

1,3 What is thumb? This joint is said to the most important in the human body.

1,4 This is approximately the number of bones in the body. What is 206?

2,1 These bones that protect the heart and lungs. What is ribs?

2,2 The muscle tissue only found in the heart. What is cardiac?

2,3 What is swing? Of the following which is not a joint: swing, hinge, or ball and socket.

2,4 Where the bones meet to help provide movement. What are joints?

3,1 Most bones begin as rubbery tissue. What is cartilage?

3,2 What is skeletal? The muscles that help bones move.

3,3 The joint that is located at your shoulder. What is ball and socket?

3,4 The strongest and longest bone. What is femur?

4,1 These three are the benefits of bones. What is support, protection, and movement?

4,2 All muscles can be classified into two categories. What is voluntary and involuntary?

4,3 The joint that is located at the knee. What is hinge?

4,4 Attach bone to bone. What are ligaments?

5,1 One mineral the bones are made up of. What is calcium, phosphorus, and/or sodium?

5,2 When one muscle contracts, an opposing muscle extends. What are antagonistic muscles?

5,3 The location of the joint pivot. What is neck?

5,4 Attach muscles to bones. What are tendons?
