4 4 Architecture Responsibilities ResponsibilitiesDescription Technology Vision and Strategy Define the future state of the enterprise’s business processes, organization, information, technology, and applications to achieve business vision and satisfy strategic requirements Identify the gaps between the current and future state (e.g., business processes, organization, information, technology, applications), and develop recommendations Assess alternatives and identify the best recommendations based on a holistic view of the costs/benefits/dependencies associated with all potential alternatives

5 5 Architecture Responsibilities ResponsibilitiesDescription Technology Life Cycle Management Identify Emerging Technology Define standards that state which technologies are used for what purpose and introducing and retiring technologies Technology Procurement Sometimes responsible for obtaining emerging software and managing vendor relationship Methodologies Specify how business and technical systems are to be designed and how designs are to be documented (e.g., using UML) Life Cycle & Process Standards Define life cycles (e.g., recommended rapid applications development methods) and processes for common tasks (such as project management, reuse, metrics and testing)

Data Architecture Develop Enterprise Data, Master Data Management, Data Warehouse, Data Mart, Shared Data Services strategy Interface and Modularization A key architectural task is "city planning" — defining the partitioning, interfaces and relationships between major elements of the IT infrastructure
