Module 2.4 Incorporating CBM in national (or sub-national/ jurisdictional) REDD+ monitoring REDD+ training materials by GOFC-GOLD, Wageningen University, World Bank FCPF 2 Recording data using Cybertracker  In this exercise we will experiment with recording data using Cybertracker and an application which has been especially developed for community carbon monitoring  We will not actually measure any trees, and that would take too long ● A table of typical data (taken from a Mexican study) is provided  Step 6 of the manual gives a detailed acount of how the programme works and participants should take some time to study it

Module 2.4 Incorporating CBM in national (or sub-national/ jurisdictional) REDD+ monitoring REDD+ training materials by GOFC-GOLD, Wageningen University, World Bank FCPF 3 Download Cybertracker  The trainer can assist any participant who has a smartphone to download Cybertracker from internet (http://www.cybertracker.org/software/free-download) and upload the REDD+ application from http://redd.ciga.unam.mx under the heading “publications”- scroll down to Appshttp://www.cybertracker.org/software/free-downloadhttp://redd.ciga.unam.mx  Note: Different versions of this application are provided, since different phones have different levels of resolution: ● Different versions are accessed from within the application, they are marked ´phone 1´, ´phone 2´ etc and some experimentation may be needed to find the best one for your particular phone

4. Module 2.4 Incorporating CBM in national (or sub-national/ jurisdictional) REDD+ monitoring REDD+ training materials by GOFC-GOLD, Wageningen University, World Bank FCPF 4  Groups of 4 are formed, with one smartphone per group  In each team, one person is responsible for ´measuring DBH´, a second for ´measuring height using the clinometer´, and a third for ´measuring distance from the clinometer to the tree base´ and ´identifying the tree species´  These tasks are in quotation marks because in reality the data has been already prepared for this exercise, they simply have to call it out from the table provided Excercise

5. Module 2.4 Incorporating CBM in national (or sub-national/ jurisdictional) REDD+ monitoring REDD+ training materials by GOFC-GOLD, Wageningen University, World Bank FCPF 5 Exercise  The fourth enters all the data into the database on the smartphone  The data should be called out in an orderly fashion, and speed should be moderated to ensure the person recording the data does not get flustered  The team should rotate, so that everyone has a chance to do the data entry
