2. Hook Slide  Have you ever held a snake in your mouth, the Hopi did and the reason why is because of a religion they believed in. The Hopi believes that after they do the Snake Dance and after they return them to the desert that the snakes are carrying rain prayers.  Have you ever heard of a Kachina Doll?  If not keep reading to find out more !

3. Geographic Location  The Hopi Indians are now located on the Black Mesa.  The Black Mesa is near a place called the Painted Desert.  The Black Mesa is in Arizona.

4. Natural Resources  Whales are a natural resource for the Hopi.  Flower Planting is also a resource.  Ocean and Forestry is another natural resource.

5. Religious Beliefs  Hopi held religious ceremonies in a Kiva.  They also believe that the first creature was Kokyang Wuti.  The oldest permanent Hopi is Oraibi which is believed to have been established is about 1150.  Kachina dolls are very important to the Hopi because they believe that they will bring rain to the dry desert.

6. Foods- Hunters, Farmers, Etc.  The Hopi farmers grew food such as corn and squash.  Ladies gathered seeds and fruits.  Men also hunted wild animals, such as rabbit and antelope.

7. Lodging and Shelters  The Hopi lived in buildings made of stone and natural clay.  Also when they honored God they made houses made of feathers,  They also live in Teepees.

8. Government  Hopi people established a council called the Hopi Tribal Council.  The Hopi Tribal Council was established on December 19,1936.  The Hopi Tribal Government is a unicameral government where all powers are vested in Tribal Council.

9. Family Life  Men and Women have separate jobs.  Every family is called a clan.  When a child arrives Hopi Indians take their kids to the Mesa Cliff on the 20 th day and when the sun hits the baby is given a name.

10. Clothing  Long ago Hopi wore clothing made of fur or animal skins.  Women wore cotton or wool dresses called Mantas.  They also made clothes of plant fiber.

11. Cool Information  The Hopis have there own unique language.  Hopi’s play just like us.  There are also lots of Hopi fairy tales.
