1 Body Paragraph: Expectations (Both examples from same story) TS: June’s mother, Suyuan, has very high expectations, which makes June feel like a failure. CD 1: “of course you can be prodigy, too…you can be best anything” (141). CD 2: “the tests, the raised hopes and failed expectations” (144).

2 Body Paragraph: Expectations (Both examples from same story) TS: June’s mother, Suyuan, has very high expectations, which makes June feel like a failure. Lead-in: For example, when June is only nine years old, her mother wants her to become a famous piano player. Suyuan tells June, CD 1: “of course you can be prodigy, too…you can be best anything” (141). CM: This makes June feel like her mom is trying to control her. June doesn’t want her mom to tell her what to do with her life, and she begins to rebel. Lead-in: She hates CD 2: “the tests, the raised hopes and failed expectations” (144). CM: Her mom sets impossible goals for her, leading June to always feel like she disappoints her mother. She wants her mom to love her for who she is, not what she can accomplish. CS: The unrealistic dreams of Suyuan cause lifelong conflict and insecurity for her daughter June.
