5 When is a flood most likely to occur? Floods occur during heavy rains, when rivers overflow, when ocean waves come on shore, when snow melts too fast, or when dams or levees break.

6 What causes a flood? The causes of a flood are when snow melts too fast, or during heavy rains.

7 How can we prevent or be prepared for a flood? We can prevent or be prepared for a flood by putting up sandbags, or by building dams and levees.

8 How can you keep yourself safe during a flood? You can keep yourself safe during a flood by going to higher grounds, keeping a first aid kit, and staying away from flood waters..

9 What are the effects of a flood? The effects of a flood are: people die, people loose homes, people get sick because of no food or clean water, and things get destroyed.

10 How can we recover from a flood? We can recover from a flood by cleaning up the mess and fixing damaged stuff. We can also contact our local Red Cross and public officials for help.

11 How does a flood affect the environment? A flood effects the environment by damaging buildings, roads, soil, cities, etc. It also leaves sand & soil behind. But it leaves rich soil behind.
