EXAMPLE 1 Making a Stem-and-Leaf Plot STEP 1 the stems. The times range from 27.5 seconds to 30.2 seconds. Let the stems be the digits in the tens’ and ones’ places. Then the leaves are the tenths’ digits. Identify Write the stems first. Then record each time by writing its tenths’ digit on the same line as its corresponding stem.
