Origin of Quebec TTTThe name Quebec comes from the Algonquin word meaning narrow passage or strait. It refers to the area of Quebec City and the narrowing of the river at Cape Diamond.

Province History, continued Pre-Confederation: Before Confederation (1840 to 1867), Quebec and Ontario were part of a British colony called the Province of Canada. George-Etienne Cartier, the co-priminister wanted to join with the other Britches North America colonies - New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island and Newfoundland. There were four main reasons for this: 1. They were changing governments very often in the Province of Canada 2. Economy with other provinces 3. 3.For peace and relations with United States 4. 4.The building of the railroad
