Solids Definite shape - a solid will remain in that shape Definite volume - it will not expand

Crystalline solids -solids made up of crystals; particles arranged in a regular pattern Amorphous solids – particles are not arranged in a regular pattern

Liquids Definite volume – no matter what container you place a liquid in, it still has the same volume. Takes on the shape of its container

Viscosity – a liquid’s resistance to flowing. Example: molasses is very viscous, meaning it’s thick, while water is not very viscous.

Gases No definite volume No definite shape

Ticket out the Door! 1. Complete the chart State of Matter Definite volume? Definite Shape? Solid Liquid Gas
