What is an information system? INFORMARE (Latin): to give shape or form. A simple model: Input: capturing or collecting raw data resources. Processing: converting raw input into a more appropriate and useable form. Output: transferring this processed information to the people or activities that will use it.

Data vs. Information Data are any raw facts or observations that describe a particular phenomenon. Information is data that has been converted into a meaningful and useful context for specific end users.
