Put these sentences into reported speech. Don’t leave out ‘that’ and please remember: this is for practice, it is not to test you. Cybercentre for English On each slide there is a sentence. Sentence 1 Cybercentre for English Mr Sullivan said, ‘I really like that young man.’ Mr Sullivan said that he really liked that young man.

Sentence 2 Cybercentre for English The teacher says, ‘you have to study harder.’ The teacher says that I have to study harder.

Sentence 3 Cybercentre for English Jenny replied, ‘I can’t work any harder.’ Jenny replied that she couldn’t work any harder.

Sentence 4 Cybercentre for English The boy’s mother said, ‘he’s been to the woods again.’ The boy’s mother said that he had been to the woods again.

Sentence 5 Cybercentre for English The burglar explained, ‘I have just entered the house, when I hear the noise.’ The burglar explained that he had just entered the house when he heard the noise.

Sentence 6 Cybercentre for English She asked, ‘can I borrow your cell phone?’ She asked if/whether she could borrow my cell phone.

Sentence 7 Cybercentre for English I answered, ‘yes, you can.’ I answered that she could.

Sentence 8 Cybercentre for English The old man casually remarked, ‘I don’t like your new hairdo.’ The old man casually remarked that he didn’t like my new hairdo.

Sentence 9 Cybercentre for English She said, ‘I’ll do it for you later.’ She said that she would do it for me later.

Sentence 10 Cybercentre for English I thought, ‘it is best if I keep quiet about this.’ I thought that it was best if I kept quiet about this.
