PRESENT PERFECT
6
I’ve travelled all around the world We don’t say exactly when the action happened She has bought a new house Since the day I was born till now We don’t know when she did it but she has a new house
7
I have written three books during my life What does it means? It means that since the day I was born, till now I have three books written by me. These are my three books, they are cooking books “Cake cats” “Dinner with cats” “Cats and dogs, what is tastier?”
8
Now you know that I have written three books I wrote the first one in 1998 “Cake cats” I wrote the second one in 2001 “Dinner with cats” I wrote the last one in 2007 “Cats and dogs, what is tastier?” So, when I want to specify the specific time in the past I use the PAST SIMPLE
9
PAST TIME is used with adverbs of time and time expressions, as for example – Yesterday – Last month / week / year / … – In 1998 / 2009 / 2013… – One hour AGO – When I was twelve …
10
PRESENT PERFECT is used to talk about actions in the past, in general, without specifyng the time. Sometimes you can use some adverbs, such as …. – EVER / NEVER – RECENTLY – LATELY … Sometimes TODAY / THIS WEEK / THIS MONTH are used to indicate an unfinished time period I have come back from London today
11
So, you can compare this situations I’ve travelled all around the world I travelled to Rome last summer She has bought a new house She bought a new house in June
12
GAME I’m going to give you a paper with a chart. You have 5 minutes to walk around the class asking these questions and filling the gaps with the information. Use HAVE YOU EVER…? And then complete the last chart with more information….WHEN…?
13
Gone or Been… Sometimes you can have some problems understandings these two structures – I have been to Rome – I have gone to Rome The first time meand that you have just come back from that place. You went and you returned – I have been to Rome last year The second one means that you are in that place now – Where is Paul? He has gone to Edinburg
