3 Ohio Reach L.E.A.R.N “Financial Aid Evolution: Change Agents”OASFAA Fall Conference 2015  2008 - A workgroup composed of foster care youth, alumni and advocates reported barriers and obstacles to the Ohio Association of Child Caring Agencies (OACCA) for foster care youth in attaining higher education.  In 2013, the Attorney General DeWine awarded Ohio Reach with funding to further develop and expand Ohio Reach’s work to improve college success for former foster youth in Ohio.  Ohio Reach improves post-secondary outcomes for foster care youth and alumni through Leadership, Empowerment, Advocacy, Research and Networking (LEARN).  Under the Ohio Reach model, we connect both children services and post-secondary professionals to the advancement of former foster youth in higher education.

4 Ohio Reach Purpose Driven “Financial Aid Evolution: Change Agents”OASFAA Fall Conference 2015  Mentoring  Under the Ohio Reach, there are 4 established initiatives:  Central State University  Columbus State Community College  Cuyahoga Community College  Ohio University  Safety Net  Assistance to former foster youth during emergency situations per one academic year. Assistance is up to $500.00.  Annual Conference and Training  Each year in collaboration with Ohio Department of Job and Family Services, Ohio Reach hosts the annual Fostering Pathways to Success Conference.  Each spring Ohio Reach provides Regional Trainings throughout the State to College professionals.

7 History  Columbus State C.A.R.E.S. consists of faculty, staff, administrators, and students working together to support students facing extraordinary situations.  At Columbus State, there are over 275 caring Advocates prepared to respond to student’s extraordinary situations.  Sub-committees address gaps in services: foster youth, single parents, emergency fund, etc.  The Ohio Reach Campus Liaison Team (S.P.A.R.K.)
