Affordable Workforce Housing In the Metropolitan Washington Region, we are a victim of our own success. This region is a great place to live, work, visit, and invest. Unfortunately though, it is unaffordable for many who live here.

The escalating housing costs in the metropolitan region make recruiting new teachers, police officers, and firefighters difficult. Problem Statement $430,000 is the Median Sales Price of housing units sold during the first Quarter of 2006. (Source: 2006 Metropolitan Regional Information Systems and COG) To afford the Median Priced home a household would need to earn $114,000 annually. (Source: 2006 Metropolitan Regional Information Systems) $77% of housing units sold for over $300,000 during the first Quarter of 2006 in Alexandria (Source: 2006 Metropolitan Regional Information Systems and COG) $50,000 is the average occupational wage in the region. The Partnership: Convenes regional leaders and stakeholders to advocate for expansion of affordable housing opportunities. –Researches and reports on local housing policies and provides technical assistance to non-profit organizations and local governments. –Recognizes successful local government policies and programs through the Partnership’s Best Practice Awards. –Includes lending institutions, local and national advocacy groups, local governments and affordable housing developers.
