Depends on these two properties: MASS: amount of matter you are made ofMASS: amount of matter you are made of VOLUME: amount of space something takes upVOLUME: amount of space something takes up

Volume is the amount of space that something takes up. To find the volume of a solid cube or rectangle, you measure the length, width, and height of the object and multiply them together.

 Density A measure of the amount of matter that occupies a given amount of space SPACE Amount of Matter

Solid objects, liquids and gases are made up of atoms and molecules so they have both mass and volume. The density of a material is always the same under the same conditions!!! The density of a material is always the same under the same conditions!!! Density can be used to identify materials.

How does the density of a steel cube compare to the density of a nail?

Units for Density Units for Density = Grams per cubic centimeter g/cm 3

 A piece of tin has a mass of 16.52 g and a volume of 2.26 cm 3. What is the density of tin?

 What is the mass of an object that has a density of 8 g/cm 3 and a volume of 64 cm 3 ?

 What is the volume of 325 g of a metal with a density of 9.0 g/cm 3 ?

 Well…there are a known set of densities on record throughout the world 1.0 g/cm 3

AAn object’s ability to float in water Density Greater than 1.0 g/cm 3 = Density Less than 1.0 g/cm 3 =

You can calculate the density from a mass vs. volume graph: it is the SLOPE of the line!
