Resilience Concept derives from public health epidemiology Resilience: based on recognition of the fact that a population can be equally exposed to something harmful, yet there are many who do not succumb to its effects Vulnerability: depends on what families bring to the situation Level of risk: depends on environmental context and external resources

Adaptation Adaptation: refers to the process which help a family to achieve a comfortable balance & to promote the growth & development of individual members and the system as a whole

Adjustment Adjustment: refers to the relatively short-term response, usually to a specific event or stressor
