1 What is gossip? When people spread rumors about another person it is called gossip. Gossip is talking about something that is not your problem.

2 Gossip is talking about someone else when you are not part of the solution for the problem either.

3 No one can make you listen to gossip! If someone starts to tell you rumors about another person, tell them that you do not want to hear it. You could say a sentence like this I Feel statement: “I feel uncomfortable when you tell me rumors about her and I want you to stop it.”

4 Before you pass along rumors, ask yourself…. “Is this information really true?” If it is not true, don’t repeat it! “If I repeat this, will it help anyone in any way?” If the answer is “no,” don’t repeat it! “If I repeat this, will it hurt anyone in any way?” If the answer is “yes,” don’t repeat it! “If someone said this about me, would I be upset?” If the answer is “yes,” don’t say it!
