Current situations Most of 3DEM software has some form of logging of a particular run Some systems record loggings for series of runs of different steps … but, can these different run be easily interrelated?
3
Current situations As an example, given a 3D map, can we easily access all the processing steps leading to this map? (the information per se may exist, but is it easily accessible in an organized manner?) …. And, what about if we have changed of package in between?. … Probably not.
4
How far are we from an Ontology for 3DEM Image Processing? An Ontology in image processing is about carefully describing the relationship between the possible processing steps, and how are they interrelated, including their input and output data and metadata. …. But Yesterday we were discussing about how to describe VERY FEW steps, with VERY CONCRETE I/O
5
General position We consider that information organization in Ontologies is the way to go, like most other Biomedical disciplines. In this way we will be able to properly described any processing step in any package, the way to reach it, and how to go ahead from it. Scipion Ontology
6
General comment However, a generally accepted 3DEM Image Processing Ontology development will need a very deep consensus within the Community…. … and much simpler tasks are still “in the making”, such as the work on “Interchange Points” and “Interchange Information” addressed yesterday At the same type, and in the area of “3D data deposition” (broader than “Image Processing”), work on “Controlled Vocabularies” in the area of image processing still require some work
7
Conclussions Let consider “Priority 1” for next meeting – A) To finish the work at “Interchange Points” – B) To end up with a new version of EMDB vocabulary Then, let discuss if we feel as a “Priority 2” task to start the work around a 3DEM Img.Proc. Ontology. – D o we feel Ontologies as necessary for the field? – If yes, let form a small group in charge of proposing concrete ways to develop such an Ontology, to report in the next Developers Workshop (Perhaps even the “Conventions Group?”)
