SPD cabling issues I.Cable status II.Cabling inside VFE box III.Cable through chains (Gael) IV.Data spare cables V.Control bundles VI.Information for cabling (Rustem request) VII.Low Voltage Patch Panel VIII.Labelling issues IX.Data cable issues (crate)

I. Cable status SPD: cables and reels ready, waiting for cabling discussions Control: cables and reels ready, waiting for cabling discussions HV: cables and reels ready, waiting for cabling discussions LV: cables in reels, reel (matrix) label to be defined: now… DSS and other: to be discussed.

II. Cabling at VFE box: numbering Location definition 1234 6 7 Location on the fixation bars:

II. Cabling at VFE box: numbering for LV cables Regulator LV in: connection at the entrance 1234 DIN terminal connectors Location on the fixation bars of DIN terminal : 6 7

III. Cable through chains (Gael) I1, I2, I3, I4, I5, I6, O2, O3, O5, O6: data cables (with spares) + bundle of corresponding control cables O1 and O4: service: HV, LV, LED, Reg Ctrl and DSS. Final packing factors: about 0.33?

III. Cable through chains (Gael) Inner chain

III. Cable through chains (Gael) Outer chain v Preferences? Matrix labels to be put today...

IV. Data spare cables SM (top) CrateMatrix label 1-- 20O6 31I1 41313 I2 I3 Spare cables will be attached in the worst case (length) situation SM1 and SM2 share one spare cable. Spare cable going from SM4 to crate 1 is the worst case. SM (bottom) CrateMatrix label 1-- 20O2 31O5 41313 O3 I5

IV. Control bundles for VFE cards and regulator cards VFE cards: 1 bundle matching data cables in a chain compartment. Regulator cards: 1 bundle per side to crate 1 (Control Board 0.5 occupancy) Spares added inside the bundle (worst case for location in fixation bars). Cables inside a bundle got to same crate BUT DIFFERENT VFFE boxes. 10 VI. Information for cabling Entry point not defined for control and HV bundles: individual cabels go to different positions. Spare cables need some extra length at the VFE boxes (worst case location) Would it be difficult to re-connect spare cables to far locations?

VII. SPD LV Patch Panel 1)We assume that the LV Patch Panel for SPD will located in the lateral of rack L3B03 for C side and rack L3B13 for A side. 2)18 LV cables (16 + 2 spares) come from the VFE boxes in each detector side. For the moment, the patch panel only takes into account the 16 operational cables. 3)The patch panel will include an aluminium frame where the LV cables will be fixed (to avoid any tension on the connectors), therefore a way to fix the frame of the patch panel on the side of the rack has to be found… 4)The patch panel will be connected to the Marathon Power Supplies with cables screwed on the bottom layer of the patch panel PCB. 5)On the top layer of the patch panel PCB there will be the connections, fuses and LEDs. 6)There are two possible ways of building the patch panel: a)Connecting the LV cables coming from the VFE only from the back of the patch panel (the back of the rack). This results on a patch panel of 80 cm (vertical dimension), see next slide b)Connecting the LV cables coming from the VFE from the back and from the front of the rack. Then, the shape is more “compact”, see next slide.

VIII. Labelling issues Labels can be attached following the cable (polyester: high performance) or perpendicularly (nylon: flexible). For LV cables are longitudinal. Other cables? See control cable bundle example. Detector label follows bar code label.

IX. Data cable issues (crate) A fixation bar is needed to fix the SPD data cables coming to the back of the crate. Rustem found a possible solution. Best location is to be defined (below/over the center of the connector) Connecting SPD data cables to connector on the back of the crate WILL BE VERY VERY DELICATE. The installation/test procedure has to be defined: 1.Install the cable and attach it to the fixation bar. 2.Test cable with portable set up 3.An expert should connect cable (implications on connection order of other cables in the back of the crate) 4.Test cable connection with special set-up or PS/SPD FEB.
