Solubility and Rate of Dissolving Solubility depends on the substance being dissolved and the temperature of the solvent. e.g.:CaCl 2 is more soluble than CaCO 3 and the solubility of both increase with increased temperature. Rate of Dissolving (how fast something dissolves) depends on: solubility: the higher the solubility, the faster the rate. particle size (surface area) stirring (agitation)

Colligative Properties Colligative Properties are properties that depend only on the concentration of solute, not on the identity of the solute. e.g.:Boiling point elevation: adding a solute to water will increase the boiling point of the water e.g. (cooking pasta in salted water allows the pasta to cook at a higher temperature) e.g.:Freezing point depression: adding a solute to water will decrease the freezing point of the water e.g. (use of salt to melt ice on streets)
