1 Solubility and Rate of Dissolving Solubility depends on the substance being dissolved and the temperature of the solvent. e.g.:CaCl 2 is more soluble than CaCO 3 and the solubility of both increase with increased temperature. Rate of Dissolving (how fast something dissolves) depends on: solubility: the higher the solubility, the faster the rate. particle size (surface area) stirring (agitation)

2 Colligative Properties Colligative Properties are properties that depend only on the concentration of solute, not on the identity of the solute. e.g.:Boiling point elevation: adding a solute to water will increase the boiling point of the water e.g. (cooking pasta in salted water allows the pasta to cook at a higher temperature) e.g.:Freezing point depression: adding a solute to water will decrease the freezing point of the water e.g. (use of salt to melt ice on streets)
