Instead of having a written warm-up, let’s discuss the homework from last night.

At the end of class, drop of your homework on the stool. Review of the check system… Check-plus = 100% (A) Check = 80% (B-) Check minus= 60% (D-) Period 3: Don’t forget about the Pets R’ Us project! Extra credit available. Homework tonight: pg. 581, question #s… (to be announced at the end of class). Syllabi needed from newbies. After tomorrow, you’ll lose points for not having it.

NOTES Before reading The Koran, review: What is parallelism? Parallelism: The use of similar grammatical structure to express ideas that are related or equal in importance. Example: “If not us, who? If not now, when? ( first idea) (second idea) Example: “Some soar like eagles. Some crawl like bugs” ( first idea) (second idea) Parallelism makes literature easier to read/memorize at times and can also highlight main ideas.

THE KORAN Let’s read The Koran together as a class first. Next, you’ll have 10 minutes to annotate for: Parallelism and its purpose/effect Questions (answer your own question when possible) Applications to your life (similarities and differences with what you believe)

HOMEWORK Answer questions 1, 3, 4, 5 and 7 AND the parallelism activity in the tan box on page 581. Due tomorrow.
