Objective: Students will know the screen parts, tools, and menus of the Fireworks program. Students will be able to create a new document, create basic shapes, such as lines and autoshapes, add text to graphic, and effects to text or objects, and add patterns to shapes. Bellwork: Explain the steps to tiling your screen so you can see 2 windows at the same time.

During our next 3 class periods we will be working with Adobe’s Fireworks CS5.1 Fireworks & Photoshop are both products made by Adobe so they will have similar layout and controls. Fireworks is preferred for web design while Photoshop is preferred for graphic design.

Open Adobe Fireworks CS5.1 Start All Programs Adobe Design Premium CS5.5 Adobe Fireworks CS5.1

On the main Fireworks Screen create a new Fireworks Document (PNG)

Change the dimensions of your new file as shown

In this class you will save your documents with the following format: Last Name First Initial MM FILE NAME ▪ Niebur N MM Filename Any document NOT saved with this filename will be deleted from my drop folder. It will NOT be graded!

The file name for this first project is “Sign” Last Name First Initial MM File Name = Sign ▪ Niebur N MM Sign Save the document to your student account, when it’s time to turn it in you will drag and drop to the drop folder. You should always have a copy of the document saved in your student account.

On the left side toolbar you will see the various tools you can choose within Fireworks (Photoshop has the same left side toolbar with similar options) Some tool have a small triangle in the bottom right corner if you click the tool, and then click the triangle you will see more options At the bottom you will see you property inspector toolbar this is where you will make changes to the properties of the object itself.

Click on the line tool Draw a line that separates your canvas in half diagonally

Use the pointer tool to select your line (you will see blue boxes on the ends) Using the property inspector at the bottom of the page change the color, size, and style of the line. Color = Red Size = 10 Style = Unnatural 3D Glow

Click on the Rectangle Tool on the left toolbar. Click on the small triangle in the bottom right corner and select the Star Tool Your Cursor will change to a plus sign Click and drag your mouse in the lower right hand corner of your canvas to draw your star.

Change the properties of the star using the property inspector Fill Color – Dark Blue Fill Texture – Onyx Line Color - Light Blue

Using the yellow squares in your star can adjust the roundness and number of points Using the blue squares you can adjust the size of your star Change your star into an 8 petal flower

Click on the Text Tool (your cursor will change to a small up and down line) Click on the top left corner of your canvas and type your first and last name Click on the black pointer arrow to move or position your name on your canvas

Filters enhance your graphic (shadows, beveling, blurring, or sharpening) Make sure your text is still selected Click on the plus sign next to Filters in the right side of your property inspector

Select Shadow and Glow – Drop Shadow from the menu Now double click on Drop Shadow in your Filters Window to change the properties of your Drop Shadow Change your Drop Shadow as shown: Distance -20, Color – White, Opacity – 50%, Softness – 3, and Angle - 153

Select and AutoShape from the AutoShape tool Draw a Shape below your Name Change Properties of Shape Using the Property Inspector Instead of a Solid Color your may use a gradient or patterns – select from menu Use black lines and square to adjust gradient or pattern in AutoShape

Now Add a Filter to your AutoShape (either Bevel, Emboss, or Shadows) Save Your Document – Turn in to My Drop Folder

With your text selected (blue boxes visable around) Change the: Font – Arial Rounded MT Bold Font Size – 50 Font Color – Yellow Line/Edge - Red

Now I want you to use the different skills we learned to create a poster for Burke High. Create a poster enforcing one of our school rules or objectives: No Tardies No Place for Hate No Cell Phones or Electronic Devices No Food or Drink Outside the Cafeteria Appropriate Dress
