MG 1.4 Lesson 12-6 Perimeter
2
First we need to find the length of each side.
8 cm The distance around the outside of a shape is called the perimeter. 6 cm 6 cm 8 cm The perimeter of the shape is = 28cm.
3
First we need to find he length of each side.
10 cm The distance around the outside of a shape is called the perimeter. 8 cm 8 cm 10 cm The perimeter of the shape is = 36 cm.
4
First we need to find he length of each side.
7 cm The distance around the outside of a shape is called the perimeter. 4 cm The perimeter of the shape is = 22cm.
5
5cm 6cm 3cm 4cm 18cm 18cm 2cm 6cm What is the perimeter of each of these shapes? Your teacher will give you copy of the worksheet. 5cm 22cm 18cm 7cm 11cm 2cm 26cm
6
Mrs. Spoden has a desk in the shape of a rectangle, the sides are 4 meters long and 8 meters wide. What is the perimeter of the rectangle?
7
Mrs. Spoden has a square book one side is 15 meters long, what is the perimeter?
8
Now find the perimeter of these shapes.
4cm 3cm 3cm 5cm 7cm 3cm Perimeter = 18cm Perimeter = 22cm Perimeter = 28cm

MG 1.1 &1.4 Lesson 12-7 Area
10
To find out the area inside the shape we can count the squares.
The area of a shape is the amount of space inside it. The area of the shape is 18cm2.
11
To work out the number of squares
The rectangle is made of 6 rows of 8 squares. To work out the number of squares we multiply 6 by 8. 8cm Counting each square can take a long time. Does anyone know a quicker way? 6cm The area of the shape is 48cm2.
12
5cm 6cm 18cm2 3cm 4cm 20cm2 2cm 6cm What is the area of each of these shapes? Your teacher will give you copy of the worksheet. 30cm2 5cm 7cm 14cm2 11cm 22cm2 2cm
13
We can work out the area of a rectangle without the grid.
length 10cm 7cm Area = length x width width Remember Area means how many squares 10 X 7 = 70 Area = 70 cm2
14
We can work out the area of a rectangle
without the grid. length 11cm Area = length x width width 3cm
15
What is the area and perimeter of these shapes?
What two shapes have the same area but different perimeters? 6cm 5cm 2cm 5cm 10cm 1cm 3cm 4cm 10cm 2cm
16
We can find the area without a picture.
l = Means length, w = means width To find the area we l x w l = 13 cm, w = 6 cm What is the area?
17
You try! Find the Area of the rectangle
l = 5 cm, w = 8 cm l = 9 cm, w = 3 cm Find the Area of the square S = 4 cm S = 15 cm
18
MG 1.2 & 1.3 Lesson 12-9 Area vs. Perimeter

A rectangle has the length of 3 feet and the width of 5 feet
A rectangle has the length of 3 feet and the width of 5 feet. Which of the following have the same perimeter but different Area? a) 15ft long and 1 ft wide b) 6 ft long and 4 ft wide c) 4ft long and 4ft wide d) 2 ft long and 12ft wide
21
A square has the area of 25 what is the perimeter?
22
A rectangle has the length of 4 and an area of 12 what is the width?
23
A rectangle has the length of 7 and an area of 42 what is the width?
24
