We all have Rights. What is a Right?

This morning we are going to think about what our rights are. A right is something that a person needs, not just something they want. Let’s try to see if we can identify what is a right and what is a want.

To eat ice-cream! To learn! To play football! To be safe! To be heard! To be given presents!

In 1989 the governments from across the world made a promise to all children. They promised they would help them all to have rights. They wrote a special document called the United Convention on the Rights of the child.

All children have a right: - to an education - to a childhood - to be treated fairly - to be heard - to be safe

With rights come responsibilities. Who is responsible? Adults are responsible for providing children with what they need. We are all responsible for protecting the rights of ourselves and others.

What are our rights and responsibilities in school, in lessons and in the playground?

You have a right to an education to learn but you have a responsibility to try your best and not prevent others from learning?
