3 §Tips for Classroom Use: l Preview the activity before using it with your class. §Journaling: l This activity is intended to be used in conjunction with journaling. l The notebook icon will prompt the students when to journal in their notebooks.

4 Focus on the process of problem solving with your students…they need to understand not only the facts, but the reasoning behind them. Have them write their thoughts on paper and then discuss them as a class.

6 §As you are an expert in the area of native species and wildlife conservation, developers often seek your advice when writing Environmental Impact Statements about their pending developments. §Your responsibility is to provide accurate information about the pros and cons for such developments in the area of wildlife.

7 One such developer is proposing the following... §A shopping mall to be built in the wooded area behind a 5-year-old subdivision located in a suburb on the outskirts of a large city. §The construction of a four lane road leading from the interstate to accommodate the increase in traffic that the development will bring.
