2 Hiromi Suzuki What is Okonomiyaki? Okonomiyaki is a Japanese savoury pancake containing a variety of ingredients. The name is derived from the word okonomi, meaning "what you like" or "what you want", and yaki meaning "grilled" or "cooked" (cf. yakitori and yakisoba). Okonomiyaki is mainly associated with Kansai or Hiroshima areas of Japan, but is widely available throughout the country. Toppings and batters tend to vary according to region. Image from:

Hiromi Suzuki How to make Okonomiyaki For 1 Okonomiyaki Step 1: Chop cabbage finely. Step 2: Break an egg into a large bowl and pour in the dashi, and the flour. Image from: Step3: Then beat with a whisk until smooth. Step4: Add the finely chopped cabbage and mix.

Step 7: Throw the cabbage/dough mixture on top of the fried pork in a round. Image from: Step 8: Place the rest of the fried pork on the top of the rounded mixture.
