Course Objectives This course will relate chemistry to our everyday world and provide numerous laboratory investigations to further enhance the knowledge and understanding of all topics discussed in class. We will explore the science of chemistry which includes the study of matter, its structure, properties, composition, and the changes it undergoes.

Course Description This course is designed to build students’ knowledge of basic fundamental chemistry processes as facts are integrated with concepts. Honors Chemistry will help prepare you for AP Chemistry! The work in this class will be rigorous and fast-paced with homework assigned regularly. Daily quizzes will also be given. Expect to study and work hard this year!!!

Required Materials You must bring these everyday: Pencil Paper Folder or Binder Scientific Calculator

Text Chemistry: Matter and Change by Buthelezi, Dingrando, Hainen, Winstrom, and Zike. Glencoe/McGraw Hill, 2008. Student will have online access to the textbook by using the Glencoe website. Students should check out my teacher webpage at the TCHS website for links to the student technology resources, homework assignments, and other classroom related materials. My webpage will be under construction this summer

Your Grade is Based On Your effort, the correctness of your responses, and the degree of completion of the assignment. Grades will be calculated using a weighted average and labs/tests will be weighted the heaviest. Students are expected to turn in their work on time – late points will be taken off your grade if not turned in on time. Missed work due to an excused absence may be made up within teacher guidelines, which may include coming to ESS, Homework Help, or Saturday School. Students will receive zeros for missing work!

Your Grade is Based On 20% Daily Quiz 20% Homework 25% Lab 35% Test Daily Quizzes are pass/fail. A pass is a score of 50% or higher. By the end of the 9wks, you must have passed 75% of the quizzes to earn the assigned quiz points. No make-ups are given for absences!

Grading Scale A (100-90) B (89-80) C (79-70) D (69-60) F (59-0) I will periodically print out Progress Reports, but expect you to access your grades online using Infinite Campus on a regular basis!!!

Classroom Expectations 1. Students must show respect for others and the teacher. 2. Students must be on time for class, or a tardy will be given. 3. Students must be prepared for class by bringing all classroom materials needed. 4. No food or drinks are allowed in the classroom or lab area.

Classroom Expectations 5. Students are not allowed to use the teacher’s computer. 6. Students should expect to work daily in class, complete all assignments, and study for assessments. Cumulative semester exams will be given. 7. Students must follow all safety procedures when working in the lab and sign a lab safety contract in order to work in the lab.
