Master, which is the great commandment in the law? 37 Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. 38 This is the first and great commandment. 39 And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.

5 I. Thou Shalt Have No Other Gods Before Me. Ex. 20:3 First in number and importance Eph.4:6 “One God” 1 Cor. 8:6 “there is but one God,” He is the God of All men

6 II. Thou Shalt Not Make Unto Thee any Graven Image Ex. 20:4 No Idols Rom. 1:21-25 – worshipping creature rather than creator 1 Cor. 10:14 “flee from idolatry” 1 John 5:21 “keep yourselves from idols”

7 III. Thou Shalt Not Take The Name Of the Lord Thy God in Vain Ex.20:7 Not to use God’s name irreverently Matt. 6:9 - “hallowed be thy name” James 5:12 - “swear not” Eph. 4:29 - “no corrupt word” NKJV

9 V. Honor Thy Father and Thy Mother - Ex. 20:12 Respect, revere, esteem Eph. 6:1-2 “Honor thy father and mother” Obey = honor Obey God

10 VI. Thou Shalt Not Kill Ex. 20:13 Human Life is Sacred Rom. 13:9 “thou shalt not kill” Gal. 5:19-21 - Murderers Matt. 5:21-22 – forbids the cause Hate

16 9 are repeated in the New Testament We keep these 9 because they are part of the New Testament, Not because they are in the original Ten Commandments.
