Police Officer Contributions are 10% of pension salary You receive a tax free lump sum when leaving the force Solider Once Served 18years and ages 40 + you are entitled to claim a immediate pension You receive a tax free lump sum when leaving the force

5 Soldier The length of your army contract depends on the age when you enlist When under 18 your contract lasts until the day before you 22 nd birthday When over 18 your contract last 4years & 3 months Allows several hours out to training and base to spend it how you wish Police Officer Long hours Working weekends and Public Holidays A full-time working week is 37 hours, with an average of two rest days. 7 Accommodation Soldier in the British Army; Recruits – Multi Barrack rooms, only available in 2 & 4 bed Soldiers – Moving into single en-suite rooms In Afghanistan they have conditioned tents or portable buildings with individual bed space & lockers Police Officer; The Police Service do not offer any type of accommodation for police officers Postings Soldier in the British Army ; You get posted to several different places and countries all over the world When being posted costs including; moving of possessions are paid for

8 Soldier; There is no sick pay Health insurance - no health insurance benefits are provided Police Officer; Up to 6 months full pay if absent on sick leave Sick pay extension; 6months +, Entitles you to extended sick leave with payment at half there regular wage Health insurance - Provided by NYLCare. - You have the option of choosing either a health maintenance organization (HMO) or a preferred providers option (PPO) plan. - The primary cost of health insurance is paid for by tax payers;.

9 Police Officer All police officers must complete a two-year probationary period After successfully completing the 2 year probationary period, officers are eligible for ongoing training. They can train to work in specialist units such as; the criminal investigation department (CID), fraud squad, drugs squad, fire arms, child protection, traffic, mounted branches, dog handlers, underwater search units, river police and air support Army All soldier recruits undergo initial (Phase 1) training. Once completed (phase 1) training you can then develop your skills in specific areas such as; Trade (Phase 2/3), Officer Initial, Territorial and Reserves and Resettlement. Command Leadership & Management programme is a programme that the army offer to soldiers to help them learn and develop new skills.
