1 Standard 3 Alden and Quasia

2 Photosynthesis 6H2O + 6CO2  C6H12O6 + 6O2 What is Photosynthesis?
It is basically a way for plants to get food and energy. It converts carbon dioxide into organic compounds, like sugars, using energy from the sun. Takes place in chloroplasts. Formula: (reactant  product) 6H2O + 6CO2  C6H12O6 + 6O2 Function: To make food or sugars for the plant.

3 6H2O + 6CO2  C6H12O6 + 6O2 6 molecules of water+6 molecules of carbon dioxide = 1 molecule of sugar+6 molecules of oxygen. Photosynthesize more in the summer because of the heat. Photosynthesis is affected by temperature, light intensity, light wavelength, and carbon dioxide level. Photosynthesis makes oxygen for us to breath. Photo means light ;synthesis means putting together

4 Cellular Respiration C6H12O6 + 6O2 6CO2 + 6H2O
What is Cellular Respiration? Cellular Respiration uses oxygen takes the glucose, breaks it down, and makes carbon dioxide and H2O. Formula: (reactant  product) C6H12O6 + 6O2 6CO2 + 6H2O Function: To exchange carbon dioxide and oxygen inside the cells of the body.

5 Contains same energy as coal,
C6H12O6 + 6O2 6CO2 + 6H2O 1 molecule of sugar+ 6 molecules of oxygen=6 molecules of Carbon dioxide+6 molecules of water Cell respiration causes ATP (adenosine triphosphate) usable form of energy produced by respiration. Contains same energy as coal, Cells use it as a energy to transport any thing(s) our body may need. Ex. We breath in oxygen & exhale carbon dioxide.

6 The citric acid cycle, electron transport train, photosynthesis, and oxidative phosphorylation occur in the mitochondria.

7 The Relation between Photosynthesis and Cellular Respiration

8 Questions Anyone What factor does NOT affect the process of photosynthesis? Light intensity Water availability Nitrogen concentration Temperature fluctuation

9 *C. Nitrogen Concentration
Because Nitrogen is not in the formula of 6H2O + 6CO2  C6H12O6 + 6O2 for photosynthesis

10 6H2O + 6CO2  + 6O2 Which product is missing from the equation? Sugar
Water Carbon Hydrogen ?

11 *A. Sugar The formula for Photosynthesis is 6H2O + 6CO2  C6H12O6 + 6O2 and C6H12O6 = glucose or sugar.

12 Hydrocarbons and oxygen Hydrocarbons and carbon dioxide
Cellular respiration is a chemical process and can be represented by a chemical equation. What are the products in this chemical process? Hydrocarbons and oxygen Hydrocarbons and carbon dioxide Water, carbon dioxide, and energy Water, carbon dioxide and oxygen

13 *C. Water, carbon dioxide, and energy
Because of the cellular respiration equation C6H12O6 + 6O2 6CO2 + 6H2O

14 What is the primary purpose of cellular respiration?
To store chemical energy in glucose molecules To store chemical energy in carbon dioxide and water molecules To use chemical energy from glucose molecules To use chemical energy from carbon dioxide and water molecules

15 *C. To use chemical energy from glucose molecules
Because cellular respiration is a chemical process that converts sugar into energy.

16 Carbon dioxide + water  sugar + oxygen
Which equation shows the reactant and products of cellular respiration? Carbon dioxide + water  sugar + oxygen Carbon dioxide + oxygen  sugar + water Sugar + carbon dioxide  water + oxygen Sugar + oxygen  water + carbon dioxide

17 * D. Sugar + oxygen  water + carbon dioxide
C6H12O6 + 6O2 6CO2 + 6H2O Because… C6H12O6= sugar 6O2= oxygen 6CO2= carbon dioxide 6H2O= water

18 Which two substances are products of cellular respiration?
glucose and water glucose and oxygen carbon dioxide and water carbon dioxide and oxygen

19 *C. Carbon dioxide and water
Because in the formula carbon dioxide And water are the reactants.

20 Cellular respiration is the process by which cells convert the energy available in food to which energy compound? APP Glucose Water ATP oxygen

21 *D. ATP That’s the definition.

22 Which of the following process do NOT occur in the mitochondria?
Glycolysis The citric acid cycle Electron transport chain Photosynthesis Oxidative phosphorylation

23 *A. Glycolysis Occurs in Ctytosol

24 ATP contains the same energy as what?
A. Coal B. Photosynthesis C. Mineral D. water

25 Because it gives off the same energy in comparison to cell transport.
*A. Coal Because it gives off the same energy in comparison to cell transport.

26 C6H12O6 + 6O2 6CO2 + 6H2O Which formula is this? Photosynthesis Cellular respiration Water Sugar

27 *B. Cellular Respiration
Because Cellular Respiration converts oxygen to carbon dioxide.

28 Photosynthesis removes _______ from the atmosphere.
A. Oxygen B. Carbon dioxide C. Sugar D. Chloroplasts

29 *B. Carbon Dioxide 6H2O + 6CO2  C6H12O6 + 6O2

30 The carbon dioxide enters the leaf through ________.
Cells Stomata Chloroplasts Veins

31 *C. Chloroplasts

32 Organic molecule that photosynthesis produces.
Sugar Chlorophyll Water Lipids

33 *A. Sugar 6H2O + 6CO2  C6H12O6 + 6O2

34 Where does energy for the process of photosynthesis come from?
Air molecules The sun Carbon dioxide Sugar

35 Is production to all living things
*B. The sun Is production to all living things

36 If photosynthesis were to stop, what would happen?
We would have no oxygen to breath Animals would become extinct Plants would become extinct All of the above

37 *D. All of the above Because photosynthesis produces oxygen for all living things to breathe
