2 pronouns What are pronouns? takes place of a noun It is a word that replaces or takes place of a noun They usually stand for an individual (or thing) whose identity is made clearer in the text

3 Examples Examples of Pronouns: He She It They Himself Herself Themselves We You Him Her I Me Them

4 Different Types of Pronouns: Relative Pronoun Antecedent Pronoun Demonstrative Pronoun Intensive Pronoun Indefinite Pronoun Interrogative Pronoun Object Pronoun Reflexive Pronoun

5 Relative Pronoun introduces a relative clause A pronoun that introduces a relative clause that are used in reference to other nouns Examples : who, that, which, whom, whose, whoever, whichever, whomever, whatever

6 Antecedent Pronoun to which the pronoun refers A word that comes before a pronoun to which the pronoun refers Precedes the pronoun Everythingits Example : Everything here has its own box.

7 Demonstrative Pronoun it must be pointed to A pronoun that stand in for a person, place, or thing that it must be pointed to Common Examples : this, that, these, those

8 Intensive Pronoun place emphasis on the subject Are used only to place emphasis on the subject Formed by adding “-self” or “- selves” to the appropriate pronoun myself Example : I will do it myself.

9 Indefinite Pronoun reference in to specific or not known Used in reference in to a person or thing that is not specific or not known It is usually vague Example : all, anybody, everybody, everything, someone

10 Interrogative Pronoun reference to a question Used in reference to a question It representing the thing we didn’t know Example : who, what, which, whom, whose

11 Object Pronoun object of a verb or preposition Functions as the object of a verb or preposition Examples : them  He told them the truth. herhim  The dog begged her to play with him.

12 Reflexive Pronoun receiving the action of the verb Are pronouns that are used to show that the subject of the sentence is receiving the action of the verb herself Example : She can solve it herself.
