1 Classroom Newsletter Important Dates: Feb. 4- Winter Walk Day Feb. 14- Happy Valentine’s Day Feb. 16- Canada Flag’s 50 th Birthday Feb. 16-20- Family Day Break Feb. 25- Pink Shirt Day Agendas Students need to bring their agendas to class daily. I ask that they read the message to parents daily and that parents please sign. Mrs.Neher Grade Four Laurie.neher@lethsd.ab.ca 403-381-1244 Thank you! For supporting your child through the Market Day process. Students had such a great time and learned so much about planning (habit 2), prepping (habit 3), and practiced working with money. Students demonstrated manners and skill!

We will be finishing writing poetry and will begin an animal research project. MATH- we will continue to study fractions and decimals as well as review and study multiplication and division. SCIENCE- we will begin to study Wheels and Levers. Being Proactive : List of supplies we could use for our next units of study, please and thank you: More Pringle Cans (almost have 22) Old toys to donate with moving parts(cranks, gears, wheels etc…Macdonald’s prizes etc…) Winter Walk Day Students will be participating in the Winter Walk day to model and promote healthy active living. Classes will begin to walk at 1:45pm and will make their way around the lake one time. If you would like to join us, please meet in the classroom at 1:40pm. Thank you!

3 Reading Record Sheets I am thrilled with the progress I am seeing in our overall class reading growth. Students work daily to improve their individual reading comprehension and fluency goals. Every student strives to choose IPICK (just right) books and many have become voracious readers! In April, students will be preparing a Book Talk and will be practicing all their reading and presentation skills. Beginning with this end in mind, I would like each child to record their At-Home reading, for a month. This will allow students an opportunity to reflect while they choose the perfect book for their Book Talk. I have attached a reading record sheet and students should record the title and author. I recommend reading 20 minutes every night however, this is different for every student. The goal is to create a love of books and to enjoy the journey that great literature provides. Happy Reading! Valentine Celebration Snacks These students volunteered to bring snacks: Griffin- veggie tray Wesley- cheese and crackers Daniel- fruit Owen- something sweet Tyrus- juice boxes/ napkins Thank you! We have 22 students!

4 Valentine Challenge I challenge all students to save paper and look at a way to recycle paper or cardboard to make each student in our class, a valentine, rather than buying Valentines. I also challenge students to be creative and to keep their notes small because all 22 valentines need to fit in a Pringle can. This is not a mandatory assignment; it is a wonderful way to show we care about each other! Sarah is a student in Nikki’s Den and some of our students have begun to make her feel like she is a part of our class, so we are all invited to make her a Valentine and make her feel welcome!
