Unit 11 - Computer Networks Assignment A Investigation
2
Network features - Connection methods (P1) Home A home network can be wireless and wired, wired is a lot faster but requires a cable to connect to the internet, wireless you do not need a wire and can roam around the building, but it has a range and is slower than wired connection College The college network can be accessed wired and wirelessly, all desktops are connected to the server by wired connection, wireless you do not need a wire and can roam around the building, but it has a range and is slower than wired connection
3
Network features – Scale (P1) Home My home network is a small LAN because it only has to be available to people inside the building, I can access my home network form anywhere in my house wired and wirelessly. College The College network is a big WAN network because it needs to be available to students and staff across multiple campuses, and students need to be able to access there work form multiple locations like the market street, ariville etc…
4
Network features – Architecture (P1) Home My home network is a peer to peer network this is because it is simple and cheap to set up, compared to a client server network College The college network is a server network, this is so users can access files form multiple locations, and any of the college computers, this is so students can always access there college assignments and work etc…, all the information and work is saved on there server.
5
Network features – Available network services (P1) Home Users on my home network do not have there own account and, my home network is password protected so people can’t access the network if they are not meant to or do not have permission, everyone has the same permissions. College Users which are connected to the college network have there own accounts which they have full access to a extent, all the accounts are password protected, and students only have access to there accounts and work, teaches can access there work on the VLE and accounts, admin’s can access teachers and students accounts.
6
Network features – Methods of communication (P1) Home At home on my network, we communicate through instant messaging and social media, because we want to communicate in real time, this is important because it makes sure the network is working correctly. College The way people communicate on the college network is through E-mail and the VLE, this is important because using both you can attach work and send messages to multiple people.
7
Network features – Sharing of hardware resources (P1) Home On ym home network we do not share any information or hardware information because people are mainly using smart phone’s and want there information to be private, this means printers and sharing files are not really needed. College On the college network a lot of flies are shared including printers files etc… This is because students need to be able to access there work for multiple locations and might have to access work from the server, the printers are also shared because it save s the college money.
8
Network features – The use of the internet/intranet (P1) Home At home I mainly use the internet for social media, YouTube, catch up TV,,music, downloads, movies, games etc… I do not use the intranet at home because there are only a small amount of people on the network. College At college I use the VLE for accessing work and getting recourses to do work which is using the intranet because the VLE is a inside network
