What is a 3 D shape? A 3 D shape has a length, width and height. A shape that has thickness.

Prism - a 3-d shape with 2 faces that are congruent and parallel polygons. All other faces are rectangles. The name of the prism is based on the polygon faces. Pyramid - a 3-d shape with one face that is a polygon which is called the base. All other faces are triangles that meet at a vertex (point) Prism Pyramid Base 2 faces congruent and parallel
4
3-Dimensional Vocabulary Face – a side of a 3-dimensional figure Edge – where 2 faces meet Vertex – where 2 edges meet
5
Find the cube How many faces does it have? How many edges? How many vertices? What are examples of cubes in our real world?
6
Find a rectangular prism. How many faces does it have? How many edges? How many vertices? What are examples of rectangular prisms in our real world?
7
Can a cube also be a rectangular prism? Remember squares are also rectangles.
8
Find the triangular prism. How many faces does it have? How many edges? How many vertices? What are examples of triangular prisms in our real world?
9
Find the square pyramid. How many faces does it have? How many edges? How many vertices? What are examples of square pyramids in our real world? Draw a square pyramid on your paper.
10
Find the cylinder How many faces does it have? How many edges? How many vertices? What are examples of cylinders in our real world?
