8. Types of Glands Endocrine –Produces chemical substance and releases it across the surface of the gland. –AKA ductless glands –Examples: pituitary, adrenal, hypothalamus

9. Types of Glands Exocrine –Produces chemical substance and releases through a duct or pore –AKA glands with ducts –Examples: lacrimal, sudoriferous, sebaceous

10. What makes a hormone a hormone? 1. A chemical produced by an endocrine gland. 2. Secreted into and distributed by the bloodstream. 3. Received by target cells.

11. Example: ADH is secreted by pituitary gland and works to reduce the permeability of the collecting ducts.
