What is tolerance? Tolerance is the ability or willingness to tolerate the existence of opinions or behaviour that one dislikes or disagrees with. WHY IS IT IMPORTANT? Tolerance is the basis of society. Without tolerance, violence would become a way of life and nobody would get along. Treating people favourably ensures a positive, thriving society through community cohesion and wellbeing of all in society.

Consequences of Intolerance If you are not tolerant, then you are intolerant. Which will you decide? Intolerance is very harmful to society and causes violence and social segregation. Examples of intolerance Stephen Lawrence In April 1993, a group of white teenagers attacked Stephen Lawrence, a black teenager, in a racially motivated attack. Pakistan A poor Christian woman in Pakistan is under sentence of death because of allegedly insulting the prophet Muhammad. Pakistan has a truly repellent and barbaric blasphemy law that allows people to be killed in the name of religion.

How can we change and be more tolerant to other faiths? ACTS OF KINDNESS- Small acts of kindness encourage others to do the same. PATIENCE RESPECT- Respect others like you would want to be respected. UNDERSTANDING- The more knowledge we have of others, the better we will work together.
