Topic 7.1 Experimentation
2
Experimental Design RQ = Research Question What is the effect of _________ IV on the __________? DV
3
RQ: What is the effect of temperature on the hydrogen bonding between water molecules?
4
Variables Independent Variable = Temperature (the variable I changed) Dependent variable = Depends on what you changed (observed or measured after changing the IV)
5
What do we know about water thus far? Increase temperature increases Particle Motion How would this effect the Hydrogen bonding between water molecules?
6
Hypothesis with explanation If _____________________ then, ____________ because ________________
7
Constants and control: Penny (heads up or down?) Pipet (Type and held vertically or at an angle) Drop height? Surface? Person dropping? Water source
8
Procedure: Numbered and clearly written steps that follow the experiment design
9
Procedure 1)Gather materials: Pipette, penny, beakers of hot and cold water samples 2)Place a penny face down on a hard flat surface. 3)Place drops of water on the penny holding the pipet at a 45 degree angle 1cm above the penny while counting until the water spills off the penny. 4)Dry off the penny and repeat steps 2-3 record the data in a data table. 5)Repeat 2-4 with the hot water sample. 6)Calculate the average for cold and hot water and record with the class data.
