SOLAR ENERGY
2
The SUN Source of all Energy Produces Energy from H 2
3
What is Solar Energy? Originates with the thermonuclear fusion reactions occurring in the sun. Represents the entire electromagnetic spectrum (visible light, infrared, ultraviolet, x-rays, and radio waves). The sun is, in effect, a continuous fusion reactor with its constituent gases as the ‘containing vessel’ 4H 1 →He 4 + 2 + + 2 + 25 MeV E = mc 2 retained by gravitational forces. The fusion reaction in which hydrogen (i.e. four protons) combines to form helium (i.e. one helium nucleus) accompanied by a 0.7 percent loss of mass and converted to energy is the source of energy in the SUN.
