TELEPHONE o instrument which converts sound, specifically the human voice o 1878: Bell had set up the first telephone exchange in New Haven, Connecticut. o 1884: long distance connections were made between Boston, Massachusetts and New York City.

Other inventions Alexander continued to invent other things for example he: o developed a method of making phonograph records on a wax disc. o made an iron breathing lung, and a device for locating icebergs at sea. o experimented with sheep. He was interested in kites that could lift a man, o invented a hydrofoil which set a world speed record of over 70 miles per hour.

ATTITUDES I feel that Alexander has a lot of Perseverance as even when the judges ignored him he still persevered and did not give up.

LIKES o He was kind and had a nice heart for the deaf.

Interesting facts about the telephone The telephones ability to pick up speech at various distances from the mouth is tested in a sound-proof room. A loud- speaker inside the dummy head emits typical human words and sounds.
