3  Groups of 4  Categories: › 1 person picks a category › You must fingerspell a word in that category › You may not repeat words › If you cannot come up with a name you are “out”  Each person must pick 1 category

7  Check your understanding!  Lets watch the mini’s and then answer the following questions:  MD1: Do Norman and Priscilla attend the same college? What languages are they learning? Who are their teachers?  MD 2: Who are Stefanie and Iva talking about? What do the people they are discussing have in common? In what ways are they different?

12  Why is making connections in the deaf community important?

13  What is the importance of making connections with people?  How do you make connections? What information do you look for?

14  Fold it into 4 th s so you have 4 equal boxes  Then, while it is folded, fold the corner that connects all into a small triangle  Open the paper and you should have 5 places to write

15  People want to know what to expect.  Deaf people relate to others to know what to look forward to in their relationship  How you connect with a deaf individual will help determine your connection with the Deaf community

16  You need to be able to spell both (fs of course)  The Deaf person will also spell their first and last name  Don’t be shy to ask for repetition  Why does this matter?

17  Deaf people have many shared experiences  Helps move the introduction in the appropriate direction

18  Deaf people want to know where you grow up  If you went to a deaf school- if so where?  What years you went to school  If you went to Gallaudet  People you may know in common

19  Where you are learning/learned ASL  Why you wanted to learn  Who was your teacher  How long you have been signing

20  Deaf community  Deaf events (community activities)  Why are they important to the deaf and hearing?

21  Have you seen this written?  What does it mean?

22  What is the difference between this and Deaf?  Why is this an important factor to making connections?

23  How do these connections made relate to giving feedback?  Helpful Hint: › Think about what feedback is › Think about your connections and how that effects the feedback you receive from your friends
