Tornadoes By:Taylor Edwards

How they are Formed Before thunderstorms develop, a change in wind direction and an increase in wind speed with increasing height creates an invisible, horizontal spinning effect in the lower atmosphere. Rising air within the thunderstorm updraft tilts the rotating air to horizontal to vertical. An area of rotation, 2-6 miles wide, now extends through much of the storm. Most strong and violent tornadoes form within this area of strong rotation.

Type of Tornadoes There are weak tornadoes, strong tornadoes, and vicious tornadoes. A weak tornado last up to 1-10 min. and has winds less then 110 mph. A strong tornado last up to 20 min. or longer and has winds up to 110-205 mph. A vicious tornado last up to 1 hour and has wind 206-345.

What’s true? Most people think windows should be open before a tornado because they think it will equalize pressure and minimize damage. But the truth is opening windows allows damaging winds enter the structure.Leave the windows alone and get to a safe area!

Witch is Witch? Tornado Warning! A tornado warning is when a tornado has been sighted or indicated by a weather radar. Tornado Watch! A tornado warning is when a tornado is possible.

What to look out For!! To be aware of a tornado you need to watch out for the following. Dark often greenish sky. Wall Cloud, Large hail, and loud roars like a freight train. If you see these these then you might want to get to a safe place. You might have a tornado heading your way.

The Fs of a Tornado F1- is the Less most dangerous. Its damage can brake of tree limbs and has winds about 110 mph or less. F2- has winds up to 113 – 157its damage can do roof damage to houses and can blow away trees. F3-Has winds up to 158- 206 its damage can blow houses away and large trees. F4- has winds up to 207-260 its damage can blow away strong built homes. F5-is the strongest and most powerful tornado. Its damage can tear up homes and anything in its path in a matter of seconds.

When do tornadoes hit? Tornadoes can hit anytime of the year but the most common time of the year is the spring and the beginning of summer. May,June, and April are what they call the peak months. April appears to be the deadliest month of tornado season.
