Assess students’ prior knowledge.
Setting Instructional Objectives
Select concepts and skills to be learned, including higher-order thinking skills.

Students identify and reflect on prior knowledge related to the lesson topic; teacher provides overview of lesson objectives, introduces essential new vocabulary, and may provide concrete experience to to develop students’ prior knowledge.

Teacher presents/explains new information, skills, and/or learning strategies; information is presented through a variety of modes to accommodate different students’ learning styles.

5. Teaching CALLA Practice Evaluation Expansion
Students actively practice new concepts,skills and/or learning strategies; cooperative learning activities are featured.
Evaluation
Students practice individual and cooperative self-evaluation.
Expansion
Students integrate what they have learned in the lesson into their existing knowledge framework; restructure and refine prior knowledge as needed; apply new knowledge, skills, and/or learning situations in real-life contexts.
