Density Observation Lab

1- Density Beads Observe the density beads. What do you notice? Under the explanations portion, tell me, in terms of density, why this is happening. How many different substances must be in the bottle?

1- Density Beads

2- Coke and Diet Coke in Water Observe the Coke and Diet Coke in water. What do you see happening? Under the explanations portion, tell me, in terms of density, why that is happening.

2- Coke and Diet Coke in Water

3- Oil, Corn Syrup and Water The oil is colored yellow, the water is colored blue, and the corn syrup is colored red in the picture. Write down your observations. What do you notice? In the explanations section, tell me, in terms of density, why this is happening.

3- Oil, Corn Syrup and Water

4- Density Cubes Density= Mass ÷ Volume. Volume of a solid rectangular prism is measured by finding the length x width x height of the object. Under observations, write the density of each of the objects. Under explanations, give me the order of the objects from most dense to least dense.

4- Density Cubes 2.5 cm All the cube have the same volume. Cube one has a mass of 100 g Cube two has a mass of 250 g Cube three has a mass of 10 g Cube four has a mass of 150 g

5- Density Cylinders Density = Mass ÷ Volume Volume of a cylinder = πr 2 h (r= Radius, h=height, π = 3.14) Under observations, write the density of each of the objects. Under explanations, give me the order of the objects from most dense to least dense.

5- Density Cylinders 15 cm 10 cm 7.5 cm 2.5 cm All the cylinders have a 1.5 cm radius 10 g 0.5 g 70 g 15 g

6- Lemons and Limes in Water Observe what is happening. What do you notice? In the explanations section, tell me, in terms of density, why this is happening.

6- Lemons and Limes in Water

7- Eggs in Water Observe what is happening. What do you notice? In the explanations section, tell me, in terms of density, why this is happening.

7- Eggs in Water The egg on the left is in tap water. The egg on the right is in a saltwater solution.

8- Pebbles and Sand in Water This bottle was filled with water, loam (rich, organic soil), sand and gravel. It was then shaken and left to settle. Observe what is happening. What do you notice? In the explanations section, tell me, in terms of density, why this is happening.

8- Pebbles and Sand in Water Loam Water Sand Gravel
