Kosovo Model United Nations (KMUNA) KMUNA, an informal educational platform aiming to enhance public education in Kosovo It will put high-school students in the shoes of real delegates and through role-play develop for them a skill set usually not taught through the traditional educational system in Kosovo Implemented by “Prosperity Initiative in Kosovo” (PIKS) KMUNA will target 20 high – schools Each school will have 10 students (total 200 students) Supported by US Embassy KMUNA has two parts : I) The training of students II) Conference – where students will apply what they have learned

DELEGATES AND SESSIONS ACTIVITIES Dress code All clothing must adhere guidelines that portray professionalism and modesty There are 2 different choices: Business Attire Traditional suits of the countries they represent There are 2 different choices regarding dress code ( depending on the state delegates represent ) :

BUSINESS ATTIRE Gentlemen - Complete suit, shirt, tie (no t-shirt) -Slack trousers or suit trousers (no jeans) -Shoes (no sport shoes) Ladies -Suit, blouses, sweater, shirt with buttons (no t- shirt) -Slack trousers, skirts(adequate lengh), dress (no jeans) -Shoes high or flat (no sport shoes)

TRADITIONAL SUIT Some countries present themselves at UN meetings with traditional suits of the countries they represent Not obligatory

SESSIONS Two sessions, one per day At the beginning of the session, delegates must prepare about one minute speech, explaining their country’s position on the topic There will be 5 committees, each with the number of delegates as in the real work of UN

Was founded in 1946 It has 15 member states, 5 are permanent and 10 are elected temporary by the General Assembly for two-year term Its five members are: the USA, the United Kingdom, China, the Russian Federation, France Permanent members have the right to Veto Its headquarter is in New York

Security Council purposes are: To maintain international peace and security To develop friendly relations among nations To cooperate in solving international problems and in promoting respect for human rights To be a centre for harmonizing the actions of nations

UN HUMAN RIGHTS COUNCIL Was founded in 2006 by the General Assembly It has 47 member states and are distributed as follows: African States-13 seats Asia-Pacific States-13 seats Latin American and Caribbean States-8 seats Western European and other States-7 seats Eastern European States-6 seats Member states serve for a period of three years Its headquarter is in Geneva

UNHRC PURPOSES To protect and promote human rights To provide a forum for identifying, highlighting and developing responses to today’s human rights challenges To provide assistance to Governments to help implement international human rights standards

UN ECONOMIC AND SOCIAL COUNCIL Was founded in 1946 It has 54 member Governments elected by the General Assembly for a three-year term

Its functions: To implement internationally agreed development goals Serves as a central forum for discussing international economic and social issues To strengthen methods on fulfilling Millennium Development Goals

UN COMMISSION ON STATUS OF WOMEN Was founded in 1947 It has 41 member States, that serve in three- year term and are elected from ECOSOC UNCSW is dedicated to gender equality and women empowerment

UNCSW INTERESTS Leadership and political participation Economic empowerment Ending violence against women Peace and security Humanitarian action Governance and national planning Agenda for Sustainable Development

UN ENVIRONMENT ASSEMBLY Was founded in 2014 All the 193 UN member states participate in discussions and decision-making on issues that affect states of environment and global sustainability

Goals: Sustainable consumption and production Fighting illegal trade in wildlife Enforcing Environmental Rule of Law Financing a green economy
