1 EKT 314/4 WEEK 1: INTRO COURSE OUTLINE ELECTRONIC INSTRUMENTATION

3 Contact Hours Lecture – 28 hours (2 hours per session, once a week) – 33% Lab – 56 hours (2 hours per session, twice a week) – 67% Total hours = 84 hours Total weeks = 14 weeks  Attendance at all sessions are compulsory.

4 Program Edu. Objectives (PEO) Melahirkan jurutera holistik yang kompeten dalam aspek teori dan amali kejuruteraan Menyumbang kepada bekalan sumber manusia bagi memenuhi permintaan semasa bidang kejuruteraan Menyumbang kepada pembangunan bidang kejuruteraan strategik, selaras dengan keperluan yang digariskan dalam Pelan Induk Perindustrian Negara.

5 Program Outcome (PO) 1. Berkeupayaan mengaplikasi ilmu pengetahuan tentang asas- asas matematik, sains dan kejuruteraan 2. Memiliki kompetensi teknikal yang mendalam tentang disiplin kejuruteraan yang khusus 3. Berkeupayaan berkomunikasi dan menggunakan ICT secara efektif 4. Berkeupayaan menggunakan teknik, ketrampilan dan peralatan kejuruteraan moden yang diperlukan dalam amalam kejuruteraan supaya dengan mudahnya dapat membuat penyesuaian dengan keperluan industri.

6 PO (cont.) 5. Berkeupayaan mengenalpasti masalah, menciptakan penyelesaian, membuat inovasi dan menambahbaik reka bentuk dan amalan semasa 6. Memahami tanggungjawab dan komitmen kepada komuniti dari segi profesionalisme dan etika 7. Menyedari keperluan dan berupaya terlibat dalam pembelajaran sepanjang hayat. Dalam kata lain, siswazah dapat menyesuaikan situasi dan keperluan baru dengan mengaplikasikan dan/atau mengemaskinikan pengetahuan dan kemahiran.

9 Course Outcome (CO) Understand the concept of electronic instrumentation. Understand and able to apply the concept of sensors, data acquisition and embedded system interfacing. Ability to use virtual instrumentation software.

10 Problem Statements Some do not know how to operate lab equipments Some do not know what equipment to be used in certain application Some feel shock and scare when asked to operate new measurement equipment Some might endanger themselve and others

11 Course Objectives To revise (functionality and capability) on available equipments in the laboratory. To predict capability and working principles of equipments. To propose and design suitable solution. To avoid inability to response quickly when given task related to new instrument

12 Synopsis Lectures session will introduce students to whole concept of electronic instruments – transducers, data acquisition, conversion, process, transmission and display. Laboratory session will introduce students to LabVIEW and basic instrumentation through step by step design.

15 Syllabus (cont.) Ch 3: Signal Conditioning Amplifiers and Amplification; Modulators and Modulation; Filters and Filtration  Duration: 3 weeks

16 Syllabus (cont.) Ch 4: Data Acquisition and Conversion Single-Multi Channel Data Acquisition, Data Conversion, Multiplexers, Sample and Hold Circuits  Duration: 3 weeks
