Preposition A PREPOSITION is a word that shows the relationship of one word in a sentence to another word. Usually shows location in the physical world. The four things that prepositions tell are: Where something is (location): in, on, under Where something is going (direction): to, around When something happens (time): until, during The relationship between a noun or pronoun and another word in a sentence: with, by 2

Being familiar with these is the first step in identifying prepositional phrases! Prepositional Phrase Consists of a preposition, its object and any modifiers of the object. The object of the preposition is the noun or pronoun that follows the preposition. Expresses location, duration, direction and time Beside a roaring river, Luis tripped and fell. VERY IMPORTANT: Prepositional phrases begin with a preposition and end with a noun or pronoun.
