2. Last spring, a new plan for the Hart County ESOL Program was approved by the Georgia Department of Education. Therefore, the ESOL teachers will be using one of the following models to serve the ELs Collaboration with teachers Push in It is important to remember that EL’s should be served all day, not just when an ESOL teacher is present. This means that general education teachers will need to provide the support and accommodations that English Learners need. This presentation serves as a reminder of some key factors to make this year the most successful for your English Learner!

10. Record the student’s Language Proficiency Level for each language domain (speaking, listening, reading and writing) using the ACCESS Teacher Report found on Infinite Campus Use this information to guide your instruction and assessments

Language Objectives communicate to students in any class what they will do linguistically to develop language while simultaneously meeting content objectives Verb + CCC + _Support___ This should be posted somewhere in your room as well in your lesson plans. It serves as a map for your EL’s and other students. This will guide your instruction and provide evidence that you are considering the needs of your EL. Document in your lesson plans.

15. This is a list of accommodations that you should be using in your classroom to ensure the success of your EL. Accommodations should be based on each student’s English Language Proficiency Level found on the ACCESS report. Student Instructional Plan may be altered throughout the year as student progresses and fewer accommodations are needed. Accommodations should be decided through collaboration with ESOL and general education teacher.

16. These are strategies you can use to assist with developing language instruction in your class. There is a list included with strategies and websites that teachers will find helpful for lesson planning.

17. Testing accommodations should be followed in the classroom as well as on standardized tests. Accommodations are determined based on collaboration between the committee members. Committee is made up of ESOL teacher, classroom teacher, and one other stakeholder 1 copy of the TPC should be given to the classroom teacher (1 copy in green ESOL Folder)

18. TransACT is a web-based program that allows users to access translated versions of a myriad of standardized educational forms and documents that have been approved for content by the Georgia Department of Education. It is filled with legally required multilingual parent notices. www.Transact.com – All teachers should register on transact.com and use the forms as needed throughout the year. This is monitored by the state and should be used.  Unless parents have requested in writing that information be sent home in English, you should send information home in the Home Language. Teachers can check the Home Language Survey found in student permanent record for this information. If you are sending something home that is NOT on TransAct, Google Translate is a tool that can be used cautiously, however, if you use this site, follow the following recommendations: Double check yourself- put it back in and translate it back to English. Include a line saying “This has been translated using Google Translate. If there are any mistakes, please let us know.” If it is NOT on TransAct and it is not possible to translate using Google Translate, there is a sheet on TransAct requesting that the parents have someone translate it for them. That can be attached as a last resort! If a parent requests a translator for a teacher -parent conference please contact your administrator.
